Snowman, you are correct. When you get the Kindle app on any device, you get access to your kindle book account. Also I have had 3 read only kindles and I just add them to the account.
Myself, I prefer using Calibre to manage my books. That way I can get books from other sources other than Amazon. Also, I can indicate which device the book is on and if I have read the book.
Unlike some others, I like keeping my books forever and as I get older, I can reread them.
