Or forward your mail to either Outlook.com (formerly hotmail.com) or Gmail and use the Inbox by Gmail web page. Outlook.com and Inbox by Gmail are super simple to use. They also corresponding apps for Android and iPhone.
I suspect people still use email clients because they want to be able to read, write, and manipulate their emails without being on the Internet.
