This exact same problem is happening to me. Exactly as described by the original poster. None of the suggestions offered previously is working for me. It started happening intermittently 3 or 4 days ago but always came back after several tries. Now, the contact list is nowhere to be found.
If I use my wife's computer to log into the same Outlook account, the contact list is there on her's as normal.
Any other suggestions? Any chance Outlook is having issues?
