Just A thought ( I am assuming you are trying to listen on a laptop with low volume and bad speakers) If you don't actually need headphones, how about cheap powered computer speakers using a equalizer on the laptop to brighten up the conversational frequencies.
VLC media player has a volume control that goes up much higher than the normal media players, I use it when watching movies on airplanes to hear over the engines.
