Even the Geek Squad Couldn't figure this out

Toshiba laptop, Windows 10 Home, anniv. edition

For no apparent reason another user appeared on my login screen. Interestingly, it bore my moniker, "Mr. Ed". It sits just below the usual tile I click to sign in, which also reads "Mr.Ed". Try as I might, I couldn't find a way to delete that mystery account. It doesn't show up in "User Accounts"; only my usual admin account is there. I even tried resetting the computer, but nothing changed. So I brought my computer to the local Geek Squad. Two technicians tried to troubleshoot it, but were stumped. They had never before come across something like this before. One of them surmised that it may have been put there by Microsoft because of some glitch in my normal account, but nobody really knows. Fortunately, I'm not locked out of my PC. But it's certainly a curious thing. I'll follow the Geeks' suggestion to just leave it alone since it doesn't appear to be harmful and I can still sign in.

  • You do know that the Geek Squad hired some undercover guys unbenown to the squad to help the gubment spy on us didn't you? True story
  • I hadn't heard of that one before. If you Google "Windows 10 duplicate username" you can find the probable cause and some possible solutions. I'm surprised the GS couldn't solve it. Good luck!
