I have a ACER net book laptop with windows 10 and 6 GB of ram and intel 877 processor that the fan runs all the time but the laptop runs warm not hot. Do you think a external fan is needed ? it's not dirty as I have opened it up and cleaned it. The laptop runs fine other wise. Thanks in advance Jay

You may have to many applications running in the background. Go to your task manager and see what all is open and shut down those things not needed.

Laptop's have an internal temperature and the fan kicks on to prevent overheating. Although your computer is clean the inside is really where it counts. Excess heat will reduce the life. Here is an article about cleaning the internal but I know a lot of manufacturers void the warranty if tampered with. clean it

Yes the external fans do work. DW uses an external fan on her Acer laptop. Her external fan is called "Connectland accessory". It plugs into a USB port. Her Acer has always overheated when purchased new.

The external fans do work but not much better than simply propping up the rear of the laptop by an inch. The OP should download the "Intel XTU" utility to find out what kind of temps his proc is actually running at. Anything under 85c will be just fine, although the fan will certainly run.
