Wouldn't 3G still be better than what most campgrounds put out?
Also by having a Wilson type amplifier/cradle will it help the signal strength of the hotspot and phone. We have stayed in a few CG's where our phone would not pick up a signal, but our neighbor could with a Wilson setup.
Oh yes, 3G is better than the WiFi many campgrounds provide. Once you've experience 4G speeds though, dropping back to 3G is still a bit disappointing. We're on 3G right now, having used up our 20GB 4G service for the month, and we're thankful to have it. The state park we're in has no WiFi service not surprisingly.
Yes, the Wilson amp/cradle will work for both the hotspot and phone, albeit not at the same time of course.
