The inhibitor for the auto-update has been broken in Fx for several weeks. This is the nightly version but I believe it is affecting older versions (about Ver 23-24) too.
Basically that means you cant prevent an update at this time.

I just submitted a bug report to Bugzilla as I didnt find anything current regarding the auto-update. It is happening to me too and being on the nightly build it downloads everyday a new build is available. We are on a limited program with Verizon so it matters muchly.
