Firefox

HI All: I have internet explorer now. Why do people go to using Firefox? Thanks.

FF does not however include google BLOATWARE which adds unneeded junk to your browser screen (reminds me a lot of my AOL days which basically made you browse in a postage stamp size while all the added junk takes the majority of your screen space).

I don't need or want the glitz and glamor of "chrome", just a browser that works.

Firefox has the most free extensions available for added usability than any other browser. It also keeps all its files within a single folder, so can easily be backed up, restored, transferred, or even encrypted for security purposes.

    X2

You CAN'T get some very valuable addons with IE like AdBlockplus (stops those pesky "inline ads" (blue underlined words) that you mouse over and pop up. These inline ads dropping malware on my PC is what drove me to dump IE.

BetterPrivacy is a great way to control flash super cookies.

NoScript, COMPLETELY stops ALL Javascripts (this is not Java which is another program)from running unless YOU allow the script to run. YOU take control of your PC, not the website. NoScript can be a pain at times but it WILL prevent BAD Javascripts from dropping malware on your PC.

Just for fun, you can get Downloadhelper which allows you to copy most videos or even audio streams so you can watch or listen at a later time.

None of those addons are available for IE...

I won't surf using IE any more..
  • I switched to Firefox about six - seven years ago because virus attacks seemed to target IE and Firefox did a good job of blocking pop ups. I have also used Chrome. In the last three months three of my windows computers using firefox got infected with a Trojan that I tried and tried to get out, buying two supposed removal AdAware and Norton, neither of which got rid of it. I tried googling ways to remove and the cure was too much for me. I was not sure if the cure posted was legit or not. I removed Firefox from all three computers and now no more Trojan. Or at least winpatrol has not spotted it trying to call home.

Besides this I bought a Mac Book Pro about 4 months ago and have 90% switched to using it and not my windows boxes.

I am very careful what I click on so not sure how Trojan got installed. But it absolutely was related to Firefox.

Calling Firefox a poor man's Chrome does not make sense, both cost nothing?
  • I have an antenna which connects to a tower. This is slower than broad band, but does pretty well in the rural area where I live.

Since a whole bunch of techies use one anti-virus, I think AVG, I tried that. HA!! It's too big for my net connection.

    Thus, I'm on AVAST.

When I got my new computer last Dec., the shop tried to put me on Norton or MacAfee. I cut that out right quick and and back to Avast with Malaware Bytes & CCleaner.

Love FF's Ad Bloc Plus. Hey, like I sure don't need the volume advertisements would put on my connectivity.

FF doesn't bug you to go along with their latest ways of doing things. More apt to let me Keep it Simple.

Sure wish Gmail and Google would let me be me and keep it simple. Dividing things 25 ways to Sunday uses unnecessary memory.

    :C
  • Here we go again. Misinformation run amuck. All browsers have security issues. Every FF release has security fixes. Chrome has a new one where someone can get all your passwords if they have access to your computer even if you have a master password. This includes remote access. IE has security fixes also although I have never heard of hourly ones. Was that an exaggeration?
Speed? you get microseconds faster if you use (plug your browser in here). WOW
Myself I use FF because I like the many add ons that are available. I do use Chrome on my tablet but not on the computer.

    X10!
Google IS the new AOL. :B

I got so damn tired of totally irrelevant links coming up on Google search I switched my search engine to Bing. WHAT a DIFFERENCE! Gee you actually get what you search for on the first page. Not what someone paid for to be on the first page and inserting what you searched for within when it has no relevancy. IMHO Google search is just about worthless now.
