- global2ExplorerWe are a couple on two ends of this debate. Just try to pry my smartphone away - but husband loves the flip phone. Go figure.
I must say, I've yet to own a smartphone that is good for phone call quality. Miss that. - rrupertExplorerI saw on the news last night that flip phones are making somewhat of a comeback.

- mike-uswestExplorer III seldom even take my flip phone with me. If someone wants to bother me, they can wait until I am at home and relaxed.
Mike - fj12ryderExplorer IIII love my flip phone. The battery life is phenomenal!! It usually lasts a month or two.
Hmm, my wife says it wouldn't last that long if it was actually turned on. Guess there's a downside to everything. I love gadgets, but the smartphones simply cost too much, not so much the initial cost, but the continuing connection charges. Many people are paying over $1000 for a year's usage. I just think of the amount of fuel I can buy with that, and it helps put things in perspective. - Desert_CaptainExplorer IIILife, especially RV'ing, with our smart (i), phones is the only way to go for us. I just upgraded my i phone 5 to the new larger 6+ which is much easier for these old eyes to see and my bride loves her i phone 5. We constantly have access to the internet which provides (among other things), real time weather/radar/forecasts, allows us to check on or make reservations at CG's/parks, find points of interest not to mention multiple GPS functions. Don't forget the Gas Buddy and all the other extremely useful RV app's.
Then there is the music player with many music app's like I Heart Radio, Pandora, Slacker etc. Add in the excellent camera/video capabilities and you begin to appreciate the many things they do well.... and they even make/receive phones calls {via the speaker, handset and Bluetooth direct into my hearing aids}. If you don't have a smart phone you are missing out on a lot of very useful features.
:B - 2oldmanExplorer IIChange is difficult, especially when you're old.
My HTC SP finds stuff my GPS cannot. I make phone calls only when there's no other choice. - We_Cant_WaitExplorerWhile yes I do love my flip phone I know that in a couple of years I'll have to give it up when we go full time for a smart phone I can use as a wifi hot spot for our internet access needs.
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIHow well do those smart phones work when there's no cell reception? You're still paying for those "useful features" even though you can't use them. And most of those "useful features" were created so people would be convinced that those smart phones are so very handy.
And the constant need to upgrade, that is almost inexplicable. If they work so great why is there this constant need to update, upgrade, change, spend more money, etc.
Nah, I think I'll stick to my dumb phone and spend my money on fuel. - naturistNomad

Uh, you sound like my wife. She keeps her flip phone turned off almost always. In fact, she's famous for being out somewhere, turning it on to call me, gets voicemail because I'm on The Throne or something, leaves a message to call back, turns her phone back off, then complains when she gets home that I didn't call her back. Doesn't seem to make any difference that it is hard to call somebody whose phone is OFF. Also didn't help when I accessed her voice mail to prove I DID call her back. I'm back sleepin' in the Big House now.
