- vern_kellyExplorerI'm still waiting for the fish catching APP then I'll be hooked too!:)
- doxiemom11Explorer III use my laptop to access gas buddy, allstays, google maps, campground web pages etc. Don't need a phone to do that. Our computers are always with us and accessible when we travel. Maybe part of the flip phone preference is whether or not you use your phone as a hotspot for internet service. We do not.
- lbrjetExplorerWe get new phones every 5-7 years. Last April got our first smartphone, the 5S, and I got a pay as you go flip phone since I have retired and we really only need one phone most of the time. The young girl at the counter said "you WANT a flip phone???". And I asked her to please disable texting. The look on her face was priceless.

Wife talked me into getting a i phone. I'm at the point of buying out of my contract and selling the i phones for what I can get out of them. I just don't get my money worth. I don't do anything with a i phone that I couldn't do with a trac phone. I guess I don't think that I need to be that connected.
Just the opposite here.:) Last year my husband didn't want an iPhone because he has an iPad, so he settled for a new flip phone. His friends all have iPhones and he decided he wanted my iPhone 5 for texting like meeting up for breakfast, bike riding etc. He hated texting on his flip phone because it was just too difficult for him. It's funny he hardly ever carried his flip phone, but now he won't go anywhere without his smart phone. - Retired_andLoveExplorerWife talked me into getting a i phone. - Chris_BryantExplorer IIA side comment- in audio, we got better and better specs, yet now listen to mp3's (not good quality). In video, we have 1080 hd, which we now watch on a 4 inch screen.
- wa_desert_ratExplorerI'm not sure why flip-phone users get all hung up on texting. That's certainly not why *I* have a smart phone.
Between the Allstays app, the SKP Day's End app and the Gas Buddy app I can save enough money to make the smart phone a valuable asset to RVing. Then there is the extra GPS, the ability to watch videos of the kids and grandkids, and the various state highway reports (for safety).
GasBuddy, all by itself, can really be a money saver. With a 100-gallon fuel tank it doesn't take much of a price difference for the smart phone to pay for lunch. Just check ahead for the best pricing and route that way. Right now there is a fuel stop 30 miles away that is 20 cents cheaper than the one I might have stopped at; and it's also right along I-90.

I love my flip phone. The battery life is phenomenal!! It usually lasts a month or two.
Hmm, my wife says it wouldn't last that long if it was actually turned on. Guess there's a downside to everything. I love gadgets, but the smartphones simply cost too much, not so much the initial cost, but the continuing connection charges. Many people are paying over $1000 for a year's usage. I just think of the amount of fuel I can buy with that, and it helps put things in perspective.
If you think a $1000.00 is bad you are lucky that you don't have to pay what us Canadians do. We are about the highest gouged on the planet. - 8_1_VanExplorerWith much smaller 16-50mm zoom.
