The most common form of malicious social engineering exploits is to present a link to something that looks like a "good thing" when it is, in fact, a link to something malicious or may actually provide something harmless, but also installs some hidden malware without your knowledge.
Your comment is well taken, but neither link above goes directly to a download, so vetting the file source is easy enough to do before downloading.
BitDefender and Malwarebytes are both major players in the anti-virus/anti-malware field, and I think both have long ago earned the respect and trust of the user community as a whole.
