You can...I am doing it with my Direct TV setup. when my daughter moved out I simply moved the receiver in her room to the RV and bought a used dish off of craigslist. It takes me 10-15 minutes to aim a 3 LNB dish.

I have a jynxbox I got a while back. I wanted the fta and the streaming for redbox, netflix and the likes. It is 100% sold to get the pay stuff free. There are no manuals with it, the only help are the fta forums. There is no support for the media. I asked all star in CA for a return auth to no avail. I got on a chat line with jynxbox, asked my question, end of that conversation.
Not good by any stretch of the imagination.

Why can't you? Just take the receiver from the house. All you lose is your home area local channels and they are usually available via your OTA antenna. Many people do it.

I am going to contact some of the techs from work and see what they know about the Jynxbox. I'll post what I find.

Since you have done research on the Jynx box I have a question for you. If you install their OTA tuner will it allow you to record OTA HD programs to your HDD ?

As far as the Jynx for illegal uses. I just wanted to give you a heads up on it if you were not aware.

Too bad you don't live closer as I would gladly lend you my FTA dish and any one of a number of receivers I have to see if you want to do it. :)

Regarding the Jynx box and thieft, from what I can see almost all the FTA boxes can be used to steal, so not sure avoiding the Jynx box is a viable statement. I am not interested in pirating subscription programming but I think that I read that some boxes can run some custom firmware that allows more "LEGAL" channels. I recall reading that you have to subscribed to an external server to steal programming and any box that supports external servers could be used for that. I just want the maximum free-to-air signals and nothing more.

Dave, you now know why I haven't bought anything yet. I'm still not sure of what I'm doing. But the reason I'm leaning towards the Jynx box is it has a lot of features that make it a really nice receiver and media component.

Be sure to choose a box that supports AC3 audio, or you will have some channels with no audio. Some Coolsat boxes don't have that.

If you want true FTA just get a box like a Viewsat or Coolsat from Fleabay or Craiglist for almost $0. That Jynx box is made specifically to steal Dish and BEV. I would not touch one of them with a 10' pole if you are honestly trying to only get real FTA programming. If the dealer of those gets busted your name is on the list.

All that said, true FTA is more about tinkering and killing time trying to find what is on. Like the old wild feed days except much less rewarding. :) There are lots of channels but little worth watching. The dish setup is also more like setting up your C band rather than the ease of setting up DirecTv or Dish.

If it were me, I would get rid of cable at home and get Dish or DirecTv and then just take a receiver out of the house when you go camping.

StreetGlo, have you tried the FTA box yet? If so where is the report? Anyone in the LA area with it and willing to talk to prospective user?
