fuzzy cable tv

We have two tvs in our unit... both work great for over the air reception. However, when hooked up to cable at a campground the front tv reception is very fuzzy, while the bedroom tv is crystal clear. Local service department doesn't have cable hookup access, so where should we start. We have Directv at the house so that doesn't help. No area campgrounds offer cable so we could go check things out. We will be in South Dakota in a few weeks at a campground with cable, so what steps should we take to try to identify, diagnose, or correct our problem.

  • Antenna amplifier off....check
    Cable input selected...check
    All coax connectors tight....check
Splitter checked.....can't see one. There has to be one....right? Where would you hide a splitter? My logic tells me to put it near the cable hookup jack on the outside of the unit, but none obvious. Now what.... Is there an access panel I'm not aware of?

Ps... The lower channels are the fuzziest, but they never get any clearer.
  • The size of the TV will have a definite impact on the clarity of picture too. The larger living room TV will require a much better signal to show the same quality picture than the small bedroom TV requires.
  • Make sure the front TV is set to "Cable" for the input selection not "Air" or "Antenna".
  • Is it fuzzy on all channels or just some? I've had places where I hook up to cable and the lower (VHF) cable channels are fuzzy for a few days, then they clear up. Higher channels are always clear. I have no idea why this happens and it's not enough of a problem for me to dig further to find out.
  • Check coax cable connections that go to the TV that is fuzzy. From where the cable signal splits all the way to TV.
