I would expect Garmin to have a way of marking some roads as "don't choose this unless there is no other way", but apparently they don't.
If you go through the settings all Nuvi, mine is an antique, you will find a section where you can specify vehicle type, motorcycle, car, truck, bus, etc., if you chose "bus" it will not route you on too many narrow twisting roads.
Shortest time will also put you onto questionable routes more often than fastest route will.
