You do have to check it after uploading and insure that it is correct, but as long as I have my Preferences set the same there is usually no issue.
Like a fool, I keep trying Basecamp for planning trips, usually on non interstates. No matter how you set preferences in Basecamp & your Nuvi, unless you add a waypoint at every intersection, the recalculation done during the transfer will change your route.
As Lou stated, the route is going to be recalculated during the transfer so if you want it to follow your planned route you must use "tricks" to fool it. Why Garmin can't make laptop mapping software that actually works is beyond me...
You do have to use multiple waypoints for a complicated route, but not at every intersection. If you have a circuitous route and only put in two or three waypoints, then you may have issues. I mapped out a route from Platte City, MO, to Rodanthe, NC, and have 7 waypoints. The route was accepted by my Nuvi 465T with no issues and no attempts to reroute. However if I had attempted to upload it with the "Truck" option selected it would have been a mess due to the Nuvi trying to route around "No Trucks" and other problems.
OTOH I have a very complicated motorcycling route in northern Arkansas that is only 312 miles long and has 19 waypoints. It takes advantage of most of the twisty roads in the area though.
