Garmin Basecamp: exporting route

I created a route in Basecamp that I like because it is back roads. I send it to my Nuvi 2689. It shows up on the device with the right name etc but the route is different. (If you're familiar with NC, I want to go south of Fayetteville towards Charlotte but the route on the 2689 pushes me north of Fayetteville.)

Again, the name of the route is right but it is not what I made in Basecamp. I even deleted the route on the 2689 and resent it with the same results.

Doing this tomorrow so don't have a lot of time to study the issue. Many thanks in advance.

  • You will probably have to insert more waypoints to force a certain route. Your gps will recalculate the route to give you the fastest time.
As far as using MapSource you can google it and find downloads.
  • Basecamp is the latest iteration of Mapsource. You might need to check your settings on the GPS. The route will change if what you plotted in Basecamp isn't allowed according to the rules on the GPS. Like if you're using Truck Routes or some such thing.

How did you get Mapsource downloaded? The Garmin site says that Mapsource program is no longer available. I find Mapsource is a much better program than Basecamp.

  • To avoid problems like that I use Mapsource and import to Base camp. Make sure you empty old waypoints, favorites, and route, trips from BC before hooking up the 2689. I find BC very poor for making back road routes.

    Just got
bc and Mapsource up and running on a win 10 machine.
