It is true that there are no official bypasses for Albuquerque, but we use a couple of them that aren't official, and they don't have much traffic at all.
If heading from Santa Fe via I25 to I40 westward:Get off the interstate at Algodones and follow pre-1937 Route 66 south along the river all the way to Paseo del Pueblo in north ABQ. Get on Paseo westward, where you'll have a mile or so of traffic. The traffic disappears, the road narrows, and you find yourself on the west mesa all by yourself. The road connects with I40 west of ABQ out near Camping World, etc.
If heading from the south on I25 and wanting to head west on I40:Get off the interstate south of ABQ at Los Lunas and follow the highway westward. This is also pre-1937 Route 66. It'll take you to I40 well west of ABQ.
If heading from Santa Fe and then heading east on I40:Don't even get on I25. Take one of the north-south highways east of the ABQ area.
There are some others, but these are the ones I've used most often.

That's odd because Albuquerque has no bypass routes like in large cities, only the freeway and the surface streets.
