Garmin GPS

Well, I got an RV specific GPS today. I ordered a Garmin RV760LTV. So far, it seems to be comprehensive. Garmin sure doesn't make it easy to get going with it though. The only papers in the box showed how to plug the power cord in. I thought I was getting free map updates for the life of the unit but now they keep talking about the initial free map update and buying future ones. I don't know about that.

I haven't checked it since I downloaded the update last night. (Several hours for that!) Prior to the update, it was showing repair garages and truck stops that have been closed for years. I hope the update took care of that. I'd hate to think I paid several hundred dollars for something that's going to send me to closed doors.

I plan to try it out Sunday and see how it works.

    You are sure right about the initial update. It is a pain. If you bought the RV760LMT, then you will have lifetime map updates, We are going on the 2nd year with our and update for free every quarter. However, there are additional features that are available that do cost additional $. So far, we have lived without those.

    Yeah, you'd think when they say "free lifetime map updates" you'd know what it means. But just like "unlimited data" on a cell plan doesn't mean what you think it means.
