Perhaps because Google (Maps) collects the data in realtime from the GPS in millions of Android phones whose owners leave location on, then calculates the traffic based on data as to who is sitting in rush hour, at stoplights, sitting in traffic caused by a pile up, or tooling along at 85 mph. It's **** accurate.
