I honestly don't understand the foofaraw about Garmin not honoring a mistaken price. I've seen the same thing happen to local merchants and they explain a mistake was made and they will not be selling the item at the mis-marked price. Big deal. It's not like they took your money and are now asking for more.
If it was purposely done that would be different, but I doubt very much that Garmin will come out and say "It was a marketing survey, thank you very much for participating." It's possible that the demand was waaaay more than they had anticipated and they decided that they couldn't afford to sell at the marked price, but it's very likely we'll never know for sure.
