Getting Files From Desk to Lap Top

DW uses the Family Tree software plus ancestry.com.

So we are taking off for a couple of weeks and she asked me if i could load the software onto the lap top. I did that this eve and it seemed to load fine. She got signed on but then the issue showed up.

Apparently the files that she created with the program are on the hard drive of the desk top so she cannot access them on the lap top if i am correct.

Is there a way that a computer illiterate can get the files moved to the laptop?

thanx

Dave

  • Do you have a wired or wireless router ? If so, you can access the files on one computer from the other and copy them over.
  • If you use the web interface of your e-mail (or if you use web-based e-mail like Gmail, Yahoo mail, Hotmail, etc.), you can create a new e-mail, attach your files, then save it as a draft. Log in to your e-mail on the other computer and save the files from the draft e-mail message.
  • If you have a google, iCloud, or Dropbox account you could just drop the files into the cloud and pick them up on the new computer.

    Thanks!

  • Get a thumb drive or an SD card, insert into the first computer, and copy all the files needed onto that device. Remove it and insert into the laptop. Job complete! Either leave the Drive or SD in the laptop, or copy from it to the Hard drive on the laptop.
