Well, I have confused myself on this! The "normal" Chrome icon to the internet (the red, yellow and green circle with blue circle in the middle) with the words Chrome below the circle is the one used for several years. This is the one "locked up" with the message you have won an Amazon gift card for $1,000 (giftcardhd.tom). This message can't be deleted nor can you do anything except click the "OK" on the message which I have not done. I had to shut the tablet down but when restarting and clicking the chrome app icon the lockup is still there. After restarts with no luck clicked on the "G" app icon on the tablet apps screen. It has been on the apps screen all along but have not used before. It is a white background circle with the "G" in it with word Google listed below it. I was on the Montana owners website when the lockup gift message appeared using the "chrome" icon. I clicked the google "G" and got back to the Montana site. This icon when clicked lists the sites I had been on using "chrome" from tablet along with other sites visited before the lockup. I clicked on Montana site and got back to it. I will continue to see what else can be done with this "google" icon. Internet searches using my desktop PC says you can not remove "chrome" from an Android device. It is factory installed and an Android product. I have tried and cannot do anything to remove, deactivate or whatever. Thanks
Sounds a lot like a Browser hijack and or malware.
Try clearing all browser cookies, history and empty the browser cache, check to make sure it didn't change your start page.
Then reboot the Tab and see if it comes back..
I don't deal much with Android, but you might be able to find some different malware removers and or browser hijack removers.
If all else fails and nothing above works, I have found that a complete factory reset often works magic on my DD and DWs tabs with Android in fixing browser related issues and locking up issues..
The downside is you NEED to ensure you have all your passwords and any important files backed up before taking this step as it will refresh the device by fully reloading the OEM OS image of the device and you will have to reinstall all of your apps and data..
