One of the beauties of Gmail is its cross platform access. Why use an Apple email app to access Gmail (or any other platform's email app instead of Gmail), just install the Gmail app. Also, the Android Gmail app (and Ipad Gmail app) do allow swiping to delete. We use Gmail on all devices including Android smart phone, Android tablet, and Ipad with the same interface as well on Windows PCs and laptops (no swiping to delete obviously on Windows with non-touch screens).
I've used the gmail app for IPhone and found the Apple app just as easy to use if not easier, and integrated with all the other IPhone/IPad features that let you mail. So why use another app if the one that is built in does what I need.
I actually stopped using gmail or for the most part any Google product as I find it disturbing that they track so much of what one does, says when using their products. May be fine for some folks, but I find it annoying that after I do a simple Google search say for golf clubs the next webpage I bring up has an ad for golf equipment, golf courses, etc.
