Google Play vs Apple App store

Google Play store is seeing 2.5 billion downloads a month vs. the App store at 2 billion a month. It's a mathematical certainty that the Play store will surpass the App store in total downloads within months.

Google Play Store to surpass Apple App Store's 50 billion in downloads within months

Developer's are still developing their apps first for iOS with Android as a second choice. Hopefully, as Android becomes more and more dominant, that trend will reverse itself.

Lenovo got the jump on both of them by opening a production plant in NC. They will be the first to engage in:

"Lenovo Paves the Way for Made-in-America Computers as North Carolina Facility Ramps Up Full Production"

They asked Apple when their computers and phones would be made in America. He just shrugged his shoulders.

I'm not sure how this equates to either Google or Apple losing sales? I guess there are a few die hard people out there with a strict rule that they will only buy American made products but I don't believe that is a huge number.

If Lenovo can be competitive with other mfrs while producing in the US, that's great and I hope the trend continues as we do need to bring manufacturing jobs back to the US. However, companies will only do it as long as they don't sacrifice profits.

  • I believe many developers prefer the iOS platform as they only have to deal with hardware specs from a single manufacturer. It's more complicated with Android as there are many different device parameters to deal with, in order to insure compatibility of their apps.
  • It will be another Betamax versus VHS thing as the lower cost and more open format will prevail. One can get into the Android world for under one hundred dollars. Given the quality and quantity of Android Apps, not a bad deal.
  • And maybe people are finally figuring out that Apple isn't the end-all be-all in consumer technology.
  • Apple hasn't had a very good time since Steve died. Maybe they will turn around.
