google problems

I had problems with my google and got rid of it since then I have been using firefox. what a sad experience. I finally got google to download again and am so glad to have it back. I went into the control panel and deleted firefox but I would like to know if there is any thing else I need to do. I have heard that firefox is loaded with malware so do I have to do any thing to protect my computer? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Chrome was rock solid for me up until a couple of months ago, then it started whacking out on me. Switched to Firefox. I'll stay on FF until it goes wonky then I'll head back to Chrome.

I think you mean you had Chrome as a browser, right? Google is the company & search engine, Chrome is their browser.

Firefox is not loaded with malware, I use it all the time with no malware issues. It does have some problems working correctly with Adobe Flash, which is very annoying and causes it to crash. That problem has moved me to Chrome part of the time.

I use the free version of Avast anti-virus. Works fine.

Another good software is called malwarebytes, free at malwarebytes.com. Run it about once a week. It's kind of a supplement to Avast, they work a little differently but are a good pair.

The MOST important thing is to exercise some common sense---PAY attention to what you are clicking on. Avoid downloading from random sites, don't click on pop-ups or ads. Stay away from any kind of site that operates in a non-ethical manner--pirated downloads, porn, pyramid schemes, ads with ridiculous claims, celebrity scandal sites, etc. They are very common sources of malware.
  • As a professional nerd, I'm extremely skeptical that either Chrome or Firefox (or Safari or Opera) ships with malware. My fellow nerds may have done something, added some feature that someone else calls 'malware', but it wouldn't fit my definition.

When you download *anything*, **anything**, have your AntiVirus scanner running and updated. Have Malwarebytes running (or Spybot).

Make sure you download the software from a reputable source - it's common for other hacker sites to take a Chrome or Firefox, infect it, and then post it for downloading.

Remember what you pay for some very marvelous software: $0.00.
    Caveat Emptor!!!
  • I'm also using ff37 which updated to ?? Last night
Ff37 has had memory problems, over filling cache and showing down really bad ..forcing me to clear memory
I had neglected to turn off auto update, when I installed on the loaner pc..And it updated..
I hope the new update fixed this...If not I will reinstall a previous version like ff32 or 27

I am guess you are referring to GOOGLE CHROME and NOT GOOGLE Search...

We had problems a couple of years back where we had to get away from Internet Explorer becuse it was too heavy of data usage and locked up alot... GOOGLE CHROME was great for awhile and I got a some lock ups as well using it. Then I went for FIREFOX and it has great fro me every since.

I do run into some of their UPDATES giving me fits. Right now the want you to use YAHOO SEARCH and every effort I do to change that back to GOOGLE SEARCH it finds a way to change it back haha...

Hopefully when the next cycle of FIREFOX comes out that will get fixed...

Think I am using FIREFOX Version 37.0.2 now. Since i clicked on it to rear the version I see a new version just loaded so it will show a new number when I start it up again I reckon.

Turn off automatic updates and do your updating manual ever month or so. Gives time for Mozzilla to work out the bugs
