GPS with camera input

I'm missing a GPS and backup camera on my F350 towing a 30' Open Range 5er. What's the best combo out there around $500-600 bucks (could go a little more) that will allow me to use the same display for GPS and camera. Plus it would be nice if I could add a second camera later for the back truck bumper.

Thanks
John

  • The Dezi has RV mode and a camera input. It will not have specific POIs for RVs beyond the usual but these are easily added. I bought and returned the Rand Mcnally because it was routing me on roads that RVs are not permitted on. I then went to look at the Dezi and that routed perfectly. Go with the Dezi. The 7 in Dezi is $399. The 5 in Dezi (same features) is $299 - both at Best Buy. Add a backup camera of your choice.
  • Pretty much all of the higher end GPS units have video inputs from the last few years. Garmin, Magellan, and Rand McNally

Magellan 9145 and 9165, Garmin DEZL 760, and the Rand 7720 all have a back up camera feature as well as RV related features.

As for the backup camera. Most of the GPS I have seen accept a 3.5 video jack or a RCA plug. Some require special connectors.

You should be able to stay well within that price range as long as your going to hard wire it. If your trying to find a wireless camera it could be a challenge trying to retro fit unless you go with the Magellan wireless GPS camera kit. The same folks have a write up on the different back up RV camera options as well inlcuding the wired and wireless kits.

For that price you could almost buy a quality standalone GPS and back up camera that would be easily upgradable for more cameras. Though how many screens can you really fit in the cab?
  • Not sure about the 760 but my 560 has four modes. In rv mode I program my RV specs just like the truck mode including weight length and height. It then routes you accordingly. As a bonus it has lifetime traffic and maps. Not overly important in the out back, but it is nice to have when I have to go to town for something.
  • I would get either a Garmin Dezl or Rand 7720 (note the early 7710 had many issues that -maybe- are fixed in the 7720)

The only advantage the Rand has is more RV support built in.
  • Thanks. Does the 7" Delz 760 have decent features for RVers, or is that more for truckers? I do like the bigger screen on it.
  • Garmin Dezl series have a camera input. As for backup cameras? There are several places on the net that have lots of choices.
