And when I read the title of this post I thought someone else thinks like me: It's nice to gather with friends and enjoy quiet conversations without a TV blaring all the time. Oh well, to each their own.
Ironically I was thinking the same as you... My satellite monthly bill was the same as the Trailer payment. I decided to get rid of the satellite, not because I needed to, but because I really did not need it. We enjoy a campfire or swim at a campground much more than 1000 channels of reruns of the same show we have seen 100 times already. It really bothered me how much I paid for how little usage/good content (as much as my trailer and I wont own anything in the end). I calculated that if I bought the family each abt $20-50 in iTunes cards a month, I would still be paying less than Satellite and they would still have enough credit to watch the same shows/movies they watched previously. Ironically I don't need to buy the iTunes cards, they just watch Netflix when at home and do not have time when camping too much hiking, kicking a soccer ball and roasting marshmallows to have time to turn the TV on.
I decided it was ridiculous to spend as much to watch TV as for the electric bill. Got rid of the Dish several months ago and don't miss it one bit. I have Netflix, plus put up a good antenna. I also got a Channelmaster DVR to record shows just like the Dish Network DVR. The picture off the antenna is even better than off the satellite dish, and WAY cheaper!
