D.E. Bishop, You need to stop throwing $ at this issue. Unless you plan on not being alive, in a 3 or 4 years, I suggest you try to accept/deal with / learn the newer operating system. (Win 10) If you don't do this, it a few short years when you are even older and even less capable, be forced to deal with a new operating system and at that point you won't have the ability to do so. Stop snibbling now, stop throwing $ at that PC and just go with Win 10.
Your other option is to have the hard drive on that laptop wiped and a full version of Win 7 installed on it. This is an easy process if you have the know how and the full version of Win 7. In your case you will be throwing even more $ at that laptop (for a technician)which is nonsensical. In closing, don't be so resistant to change, to moving on with technology. Don't be like so many here.
Geeze WHO "appointed" YOU the OS "god"???
If YOU "love" "10" interface that is fine, BUT NOT "EVERYONE" does..
Don't be so "snibbling" and "snippy" to OTHERS who DO NOT WANT OR LIKE the stupid Metro huge block tile interface..
"8" was a MS mistake, they KNOW it which is why they quickly came out with "8.1" which was a "concession" to folks that did not like being forced to use a desktop or laptop like a "tablet"..
"10" IS another MS goof, MS knows it and instead of making more "concessions" they have TAKEN YOUR APPROACH to this issue.. Forcing desktop and laptop users to use a "like" a very clunky GUI..
"10" also takes away a lot of customization and flexibility to the OS, stupid things like forcing "updates", some which have failed miserably..
OP HAS THE RIGHT TO INSTALL ANY VERSION OF OS THEY WANT AS LONG AS THEY HAVE A LEGIT LICENSE.
D.E., there is no reason that you could not install Win7 other than the potential of not being able to get all the drivers for your hardware.
In some cases Windows will substitute a generic MS driver which often will get the basics working.
I would highly recommend Win7 PROFESSIONAL OEM which you can find HERE
Get the 32 bit version if your PC does not have more than 4 gig of RAM, 64bit version is more for PCs with 5gig of RAM and higher..
You will need the DVD AND the license key, just be aware that there ARE chances of "bootleg" copies with a BAD LICENSE KEY.. So, I would not recommend "open box", or "used" copies..
Win7 Professional OEM license will be good for only ONE PC and does not come with any "free" MS technical support.. But hey, it is available and should get the job done.
I would recommend buying a new hard drive for this install, this way if anything goes wrong you can put the old drive back in and still be able to use your computer.
You will need to set the BIOS to boot the DVD drive FIRST in order to boot from the install DVD..
Good luck and don't let the "10" folks get you down..
