I've found numerous photos of mine by doing a google search and looking at them under "images". But if you try and copy the image address, PB blocked it.
So they blocked others from using your images and that was a problem. :h
As far as charging I guess I am not surprised. Paying for server space and bandwidth is not free.
Don't be specious, they knew that many people have used their site for photo hosting, and had lots of photos linked to many different sites. They counted on people not wanting to have to remove their photos and transfer them to another hosting site. But did they let people know in advance what was going to happen? No, they just shut down access. Pretty poor way to get more repeat business.
