Hate throwing away the old IPod Classic

The IPod classic that I own now for almost 8 years is in pretty bad shape. It will not hold a charge anymore. But still plays fine plugged into 12v cig lighter or other devise. It just goes dead like in 10 minutes alone. I have cherished it and put almost 9,000 songs (about 120 gigs) on it. Most of the original and backup CD's I once owned are forever lost. I heard ppl spend like 50 bucks for a battery replacement kit which about half the time wasn't the problem. I heard even more actually totally damaged beyond hope trying to repair it them self. SO what I did is bought a Pocket Power Pack (they're pretty cheap now), like eight dollars. With a little creativity I attached it on the back and it works. Gives me about the same amount of juice the original battery gave me. Oh no! does that make me a Redneck?
  • I still have my iPod. Have not used it in several years so I don't know if it still works or not. Transferred all the songs onto my iPhone and sometimes listen to it thru the truck radio.
  • When my iPod Touch battery went I dumped all my music onto my Android phone. I then kept the iPod Touch plugged in (since if you have no power to the unit, everything in memory is lost) and dumped all of my Christmas music on it. I keep it plugged in and hook it up to amplified speakers every Christmas and play Christmas tunes from it.

IMHO Apple made a bad decision not to let people get into these units to do things like replace the battery or increase the memory. Also, I forgot to mention that you can't upgrade these older iPods OS because of the chip set that they used. Again, IMHO, another bad move on Apple's part. But at least I am still getting some use out of my old iPod.
