Have Norton Security===Need Malwarebytes Too??

I don't know what all Norton does while I'm not looking, but it seems to do enuff, because w/o adding anything else.I don't have any problems w/ any of the "wares" that I hear talk of, even tho there is no shortage of logals telling me how bad I need all the pc cleaners that are out there :)

I paid high yearly fees for NORTON for many years and finally just told myself enough is enough haha... This was always protection of choice for the Governmanet back then.

I use the FREE STUFF now namely Advanced System Care 7 - AVG - Malwarebyte Anti Malware. It works in the background just like NORTON used to do for me... Been doing this since early 2000s... All gets automatically upgraded every two to three days...

We have about five computers here in use and so far so good...

Norton works, but many geek friends of mine recommend Avast and Malewarebytes for general protection and CCleaner for "cleaning out" your computer every so often. These programs all have free versions. If you want, you can send some money and get extras.

I have Avast "running" all the time. I scan with Malewarebytes every so often if I think I may have been to an iffy website - Avast and Malewarebytes sometimes catch different things. CCleaner I use when I remember it.

Important to remember: "cleaners", like CCleaner, usually remove the "cookies" on your computer that remember sign-in names and passwords for websites you visit regularly. Before you run a "cleaner", make sure you have saved all your passwords somewhere to re-sign in to the websites.

Also, not all "maleware" is bad! Many times programs like Avast and Malewarebytes simply don't recognize a program, or they need to be updated. A quick search on the internet will tell you if a program is actually bad.

Keep in mind that choice was not based on merit, it was based on cost.

I use Norton and also CCleaner. This pair has worked very well for me. Norton treats Malwarebyte as a virus (and vice versa) and slows the computer down considerably.

Norton is there all the time, whereas I use CCleaner often, sometimes every day.

I use nothing. I've had one virus in 25 years.

The free ones are not out there because of the goodness in their heart, but to make money. They usually are offered as a 30 day trial, then continually clutter your screen w/ logals begging you to buy, or at least pay the extra for the advanced, that you really need to do any good. I just got tired of it all, namely trying to get something for nothing, and now just pay $49 for 4 computers,... every 2 years and never see a logal.

I started using Spybot, if found more bad stuff then Malwarebytes. Norton to me is more spam or a virus itself...getting it off your machine is a chore....

I'm beginning to turn against free stuff. When you download it they download a bunch of stuff you don't want, change your home page, etc. Think maybe I'd rather just pay and skip the hassle. I'm sure a sophisticated techie would know how to avoid all this, but not me.

Had my fill of Norton. Used it for years. Got a virus. They claimed it was my fault even though virus was picked up after an update that was supposed to keep it out. They agreed to " fix " it for 99.00 paid up front. Spent 2-3 hours on phone and they got rid of the virus finally and screwed several other things up in the process. Got Mcafee now and it works good, but thinking of changing to some of the free ones mentioned above when it expires. Mcafee and Norton kind of take over your computer and do their own thing. Also use Firefox which has some pretty good controls built in. Good luck
