Have You Compared Photo Labs?

As I wrote sometime back, my Epson 2200 is almost dead and I don't think I'll get another large printer. I would still like to sell a few images and maybe even open up to having them put on various items. Have you compared or do you have experience with photo labs who have a high quality level and a reasonable price and offer outstanding customer service? All input appreciated. Happy New Year!

  • I have tried Whitehouse and also Millers for my professional photo work. I like Whitehouse better. The image quality and colors were what they should be while Millers was slightly off. Be sure to provide them with excellent images. What you send any of the photo services will greatly effect what you get back. Printing is being done with a professional laser process that is very different from home printers of any type.
  • I use MPIX when I'm in a location that has a mailing address (or home) but on the road I often use Walmart. I've had good results with prints up to 16" X 20", and If I don't like the result, they will do them over. I can email the file to the nearest Walmart & pick it up a few hours later.

I preferred them when they were using Epson printers; now they are using HP & I don't have profiles for them. Still, the results are pretty good.
  • we have always used shutterfly for our picture stuff, but our last order didn't turn out very well with them. We went to another company called MPIX as they were recommended to us by two different professional photographers. The results were outstanding and will ONLY use them in the future.
  • I've been using Snapfish for several years and have been well satisfied. It's costing me 9 cents per picture, quality is A-OK and turn-a-round time is not bad. Their shipping is a bit high (increases cost to less than 20 cents per picture) but that is still much cheaper than Wal-Mart or Walgreens. We usually upload 50 to 200 pictures at a time which spreads the shipping costs fairly well. They also have virtually unlimited free storage. If my DW just a few she either goes to Wal-Mart or Walgreens but if 3 or 4 are needed I do them on my computer. HP bought them out recently but so far quality & service have not changed. I'm not sure if they cater to professionals.

  • I use Costco for my photo printing.
Always high quality. Lots of options. For professionals, you can even set your their print set up to match your computer monitor. Thus, what you see is what you get.
