HD on dual tuner receiver

I have dish net. vip622 receiver and on tuner 2 you only receive sd however i find if i have the receiver set to single mode(which i usually do)i the receive HD on all tv's. when talking to a friend who has direct tv he said he has HD on both modes, just wondering if this is true.

Main tv is HMDI and gets HD and second TV uses Composite cable and gets HD or at least that's whats is displayed on TV and even can switch to SD if needed. It works for me and I know the picture is great picture. It surprised me as the VIP 722 anly got HD and SD on same setup. Sorry but thats is what I see.

Your TV displays the caption HD because the signal is coming in on the composite inputs and has been upscaled to conform to the transmission protocols for that input. It has nothing to do with the actual resolution of the picture you are watching. But if it's Ok with you that's all that's important.
  • Sorry it works for me as the picture better than SD as I can switch between HD & SD. When i cabled the back TV I was looking for a booster unit to boost the signal. any way I will look at the Upscale unit to see cost and availability.

There is no reason a box can not be built to encode or re-encode, or simply copy the code for HDTV to a psuedo TV transmitter using either QAM or ATST encoding and send it down coax to a 2nd TV.. In fact there are some boxes on the market that do just that.

Now.. IF I were designing a modern Sat Receiver, epically one being marketed to RVers... I would include a "Card" in the box that did just that... alas... I am not a Sat Receiver designer.. But who knows.. I mean I'm not the smartest engineer in the country by a long shot. Perhaps one at least as good as me works for Dish.
