My DH fell in love with Olympus SLR cameras when we were in Germany in the early 70's and his Yashica he had bought on R&R in Japan gave up the ghost.
He has several of the film ones and in 2006 I bought him the Olympus E-500 when we were at a camera store looking for a lens he wanted. I asked if his other lenses would work with the DSL and was assured. If we use the lenses for the DSL, then when you have it in focus, press half way down and it will totally focus it and capture it. If we use the other lenses with a special collar, then it is like his Yashica, where we have to figure stuff, etc. but the Olympus cameras are easy to focus since it is a circle that you make sure is focused in the center, and everything else is correct, and not an X or plus sign where you are trying to get the lines together.
I have an Olympus P&P that has a toggle switch to go out or bring the subject closer. We use both. With his long lens, we have a small tripod that can be tall enough while standing or small enough for a table top.
