The HR24 does not require SWM as the DTV installer indicates. It will work with the LNB you show (if the LNB is working). You need to go into the receiver setup and change this before anything else will work.
Go to Menu, Settings, Satellite, Repeat Satellite Setup (enter a dash, found below the 7 key). Here you will select 18" round and that should change the switch type to Multiswitch. Now you can go to the link to Signal Strength and then Signal Meter. With this screen up, and some serious patience you will eventually find the 101 satellite, peak it up until you see a signal in the 80+ range (if you can only get 70's that's OK for a first try). Once you get a good signal, continue on through the setup routine, don't just get a signal and exit. Once complete you will be watching TV. This change in setup will need to be completed every time your friend switches between the home antenna and this style antenna so be sure to have him write down the settings he finds in the Repeat Satellite Setup routine BEFORE he makes any changes so he knows how to reset it when he returns home.
Excellent tutorial! I've just started using the same setup as the OP asked about. My old SD rcvr just required getting a 70+ signal on the signal strength meter. I've notice on the new HR 24 I have to get a good signal, then find the weakest transponder and peak for signal strength on that one.
Before I started doing this I could have a 90+ signal on the signal strength meter and I would have frequent drop outs on the channels on the transponder(s) with the weakest signal strength.
