Help with Verizon - Out of Service Area

Any suggestions on what we can do? We have Verizon and just relocated to Maryland.

We are only getting 1x signal and hard to send a text picture or google anything on the phone, very slow. We are able to make and receive calls.

Spoke to Verizon and we "Are Out Of Service Area", they do not service this area.

They said "too bad for us" and we will have to pay a Termination Fee if we go with another carrier.

We also have a Tablet and get no service connection with that.

Contracts on 2 phones expire in November. Tablet already met contract, so no problem to take that off Verizon and switch.

Is there a signal booster or something we can do to get better than 1x ??

    Have you moved to this area to live? We were with AT&T when we moved to this area of KS - like you we were out of their service area. They had to let us out of the two year contract due to them not being able to supply us service. AT&T does serve KS just no towers in this area.

    At Cumberland, probably a tin can and a long string is a good bet. But really, talk to some local people about what service works best in the area. In deep, dark Virginia, I had to by a Tracfone to get any service, and that was talk only.

    If you are out of their service area and cannot supply you with service, then you have an out. Call them again and ask for a supervisor, explain the situation to them and ask to be let out of the contract. If they refuse, contact the local attorney generals office.

    From VZ's point of view:
    I suspect that if you read your VZ contract, they are obligated to provide some degree of service but *not* speedy service. 1x service is service. Basic phone service is service. Slow, I grant you, but service nonetheless.
    I know their contract clearly says that service is not available everywhere. If you signed up for service in a strong area then moved to a weak area, I suspect VZ would say your moving decision was not theirs.

    Give the Sleek Booster a try. It works very well for us when we are traveling in marginal VZ areas.

    Why would you contact the AG? They relocated, Verizon in no way shape or form did anything wrong. When they signed the contract with VZ they had service, the OP CHOSE to leave the service area.

    When in NC we live in an "out of service" area for any kind of wireless. Verizon terminated our service with no problem or fees. Having dealt with this for 14 years I have no idea what to do. We have a unreliable land line for the telephone and unreliable dishes for everything else. Best of luck! lizzie
