If you want High Def and DirecTV then buying a tripod and antenna like the one pictured above will get you that. If you want HD and you want to use a roof mounted dome style antenna you would need to change to Dish AND update the antenna (spell that replace) to one that works with the current Dish satellites.
If you don't care about HD and you are a DirecTV customer you can buy a D12 (SD only receiver) or an H/HR24 which will work with your existing antenna for SD and can be used with a DirecTV tripod mounted antenna (not the Winegard version). Several companies sell the antenna and tripod setup that works for mobile users. It does take some training and it can be quite frustrating the first couple of times but once you get the hang of it, using a tripod based antenna is pretty simple as long as you don't have to move too often.
