I have been in the computer support side of things for 30 years! Just retired form "Corporate America" back in January and as soon as we sell the house we ater hitting the road.I have worked on many different Windows versions as well as may different workstations. My utility programs of choice where AVG AntiVirus and SuperAntiSpyware.Recently my IBM laptop running Windows 7 started slowing down. I knew SOMETHING was not right. This AM after running BOTH full scans of SuperantiSpyware and AVG and rebooting the problem was still their!In Task manager under processes I sort by CUP utilization. I see MSIEXE.EXE CMD.EXE and CONHOST.EXE popping in and out. This really worries me because it told me that "someting" was running in a command window.After 2 more COMPLETE scans with AVG & SuperAntiSpyware I was about to give up before running across a program called Hitman Pro. I did the 30 day free trial and ran the program. It found some trojans & malware that the other programs did not find. After a reboot all is back to normal!I'm going to purchase the softwae for three PC's.I suggest anybody tat runds Windows should give this program a try. Again, I have been in this Biz for 30 years & this is a hot little program.Run it & post back your results. This might save you from upgrading to a newer PC because of performance issues!I have been a Diesel D.I.Y. guy for 13 years and now I'm taking it on the road! Hope to see ya all! Yes, its in the wrong forum. But a warning about HitmanPro. DO NOT use this app unless you know what you are doing. Best to only do so with the assistance of a techie helping you with your particular issue - such as BleepingComputers.com. The reason being that it is an auto process, and can make permanent changes without your intervention, that can cause your system not to function.I know first hand as I used HitmanPro to remove difficult malware from a system, which would no longer boot after the process. Had to manually restore just the files causing the boot issue, without restoring the malware.If you are going to use the app, make a system restore point yourself at minimum. Don't rely on an app to do so for you. I would also make a system backup as a precaution.

To sun a simple scan.The newer scanners will now actually load "Pre Windows Boot" to look for these nasty bugs! The will show what looks like a boot error but will continue w/o issue.

This program already has a product code key crack on you tube. I wonder how good it is if it has already been hacked. Just sayin.

I first learned about Hit Man Pro several years ago when I got a really bad piece of malware on my laptop. Norton detected and identified it but could not get rid of it. I tried MS security sw and it was not able to get rid of it. After reading about others dealing with the same thing on Symantec forums, I found one individual that had gotten rid of it using a tool called Hit Man Pro. I researched this product and found very positive feedback so I tried it on my laptop and in about 5 minutes it was permanently fixed.

This product is a cloud based program that uploads your critical system files and analyzes them using many different malware tools and then down loads the fix to your PC. It is also not a substitute for regular malware sw.

McAfee as a brand is likely to cease to exist. Intel bought them out, so the brand has nothing to do with the man.

I do disagree with using more than one. Too many, and the AV programs start fighting with each other, especially as they all take turns opening every document or file you are using.

I tend to just use one utility, and every few years, change to a better one. Right now, Malwarebytes is top dog, as it can block not just stuff downloaded, but by malicious website IP, something which only Blue Coat's K9 does.

I also sandbox the Web browser, since that is the main cause of compromised computers. SandboxIE is an excellent tool. Takes some getting used to, but if the Web browser gets compromised, it won't take the rest of your files with it.

The best information I have:
NO Anti-Malware(Virus) program is 100% All of them miss something.

Thankfully most miss different things so if you run more than one you are far less likely to have issues.

The recommendation is to use at least 3

And do not count "Microsoft Security Essentials" as it is not all that good.

AVG, AVAST, Malware Bytes,, Hitman all good

Norton I am told is honest

McAffee.. Well many of us know the man is wanted on warrants, if that is they hae not been satisfied but that has nothing to do with computer crimes.

But back when he (And Norton) first came out with Anti Virus programs I wondered if they were perhaps seeding the market.

My Source says Norton would never thik of such a thing..

He also gave me the "Day Job" title and location of the McAffee employe so hired.

There are a lot of tools out there for Windows. HijackThis and Autoruns are great for manually de-lousing a machine... but one wrong move, and you have an unbootable system.

I'm lucky... I had an update fail (it fired up when I was busy doing a lot of other tasks), taking out a good chunk of my desktop's OS... so I just rebooted it via "shutdown -r -o -t 0", which popped up recovery options and reloaded a backup from a day earlier.

I highly recommend people find and use a decent backup program. This way, one can reload the entire machine from a known good copy, so there isn't a panic if something breaks.

its a great program
but you have to understand what that list of registry items means
and NOT remove something that is key to windows operation

generally it is safe to remove anything marked as a BHO aka Browser Helper Object
they can always be re-installed

everything else should be left alone if you do NOT understand
