With Direct, I take one of the receivers along when we go out to the lake or whatever. Is this possible with a Hopper/Joey setup? Do you take a Hopper/Joey combo box?
Yes, you can take a home Hopper(s)/Joey(s) in your RV.
I have a permanent Hopper, 2 Joey setup in my RV since I no longer have a S&B.

And, if you have two hoppers (I have five home TVs)are Joeys tied to a specific Hopper box or can you mix and match when going out on the road?
Joeys can be "linked" or "unlinked" to any Hopper on your network by using a Joey's online menu system. (Just a side note -- Hopper/Joey networks can be created where everything sees everything else or where they cannot.)
BTW, if you can afford it, buy multiple Hoppers instead of Hopper/Joey combos because you end up with more tuners. Initial pop for Hopper is more than a Joey, but lease fees are the same.
Here's a link to a set a Hopper/Joey
RV network diagrams I created that might be of interest.
