Those ads keep the internet 'free' to all of us.
You're kidding, right?
2oldman -- It's not free when the ads cause me overage that I pay for - and we all pay for internet access one way or another.
I can remember when the internet was mostly direct and useful information - now it has become another "advertising rag" unless a person is tech savvy enough to search and not get five hotel ads and three car ads, and fifteen other ads that have no relationship with my search - all the 'tag lines' are not tag lines anymore - every type of product now inserts 'tag lines' from products that have nothing to do with it, but it still drives you to their page -- when I ask for carpets, I get fifty ads that hve nothing to do with floors, and I have no use for anyway.
Don't get me wrong - internet / web is a great tool - I just would like to see 'commercial ads' stay away from it unless I ASK for it.
When I search for wildlife protection articles in the national parks, I don't need fifty hotels and restaurants near the park. But often, that's what shows up first.
AND, even if I ignore the ads, it still eats MY data, data access I pay for ...
