... but the internet is not free. You do have to pay your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for the bandwidth you use. Even "free" WiFi providers have to pay an ISP for service.
Your fees to your Internet service provider have zero to do with the content you view. Unlike cable TV where your fees kick back to the content producer as a royalty, the money you pay for internet access only goes the the pocket of your access provider. Right now, ads and tracking data pay the Internet content suppliers.
