Thanks for all the replies, but it looks like I'm stuck with Windows 7.
BelArc gave me the product key, but it wouldn't work. On-line chat w/Windows help desk confirmed that it is a valid OEM version product key but the update was blocked by the retailer.
Oh well, I'm not really unhappy with Win 7, so I guess it's not that big a deal.
