Buy another HD, they're cheap. Mirror your current Win 8.1 drive to it. Upgrade to Win 10. If you don't like it just swap the drives and reboot and you're back to Win 8.1.
I did this on mine with Win 7. Tried 10 for bit and saw no benefit and a ton of worthless 'features'. Swapped my drives back and good to go.
To mirror the drive I used a USB to SATA cable adapter from Apricorn. Other adapters will work or can use a desktop PC to plug both drives in to mirror. If buying a Western Digital drive then they have a free mirroring program to download.
