You ask for an alternative - I suggest that you do what I stated in my previous post. It works great.
All these electronic gizmos are really computer laptop cousins and as such they are just as fragile. They don't bounce well at all. So I have my IPhone in an Otter case which pretty much makes it immune to anything I would normally do to it. It's an IPhone 5 that I've been using for over 4 years now. When I took it out of the case a few weeks ago, it looked like new - not a single scratch. The Otter case is about 3-4 times as thick as the phone which makes it IMMENSELY less slippery and easier to hold.
And my Samsung Tablet is also in a protective case - mostly because the case makes it easer to hold.
