How to get directv in my rv?

Sometimes posts that don't directly address the OP's question give him solutions, or at least ideas pointing to solutions, that are better than what he originally considered. I know that happened with me. Years ago, I posted a question about an alteration in my 12v electrical system, but an answer suggested a plumbing alteration instead. It was a far better solution to my actual problem, DW forgetting to turn on the water pump when going to the bathroom, than trying to pull wires. Easier, and solved other issues as well. I would have NEVER thought of it if everyone had just answered my question.

So, answers that do not directly address the original question can be very helpful.

OP, we bicker all the time. Just skip over those posts, and take what you want from the remainder.

I apologize. Many said many thinks. Some said some unnecessary things and some said some very good things. Now, I have said something as well. The OP clearly had not found an answer or he would not have given up on this forum and hoped that DTV could help. My post may or may not be of any additional help to him but at least it directly addresses his question.
That does not make any other post any more or less valuable, only different.

DirecTV will not be able to help you with anything RV related. Your best source of information will be here. You have been given several good ideas so please let us know where you are still confused or how we might clarify something.
Your basic question was answered in that you cannot use the Client (C31/41) as a stand alone device. They must be connected to the same antenna/cabling as a Genie. You can, however, take your Genie instead (or in addition to) and use that in your RV. Now you have the benefit of a DVR plus the ability to watch different channels on different TV's.
It's only the antenna equipment required that makes this movement a slight issue but it is very, very easy to deal with. You either add a kit to your current setup and it all works but you don't get any of the programming in HD (same programming, just in SD) or you buy a separate antenna to use when you are in the RV. This could be a roof mounted automatic like the Winegard Trav'ler or a ground home style antenna on a tripod which you point in a very similar manner to your current 18" dish.

Hum, must be some guilty consciences out there. I did not point blame at anyone.
Someone suggested he buy a D12 because that's what they did. Then someone wanted questioned if he even had a TV with an HDMI connection. Only Docj explained that what he wanted to do was not difficult and schneid gave a good link to the SWM8 which is all good information.

I'm with Doc again. OP provided little information about his equipment and possessed little information about how to proceed. Doc, others and I did our best to fill in the blanks and present him with solutions.

I see only one unresponsive and irrelevant post here.

I'm sorry if you think this thread has gone astray, but the OP asked if he could connect his C31 client with his 18" dish. I guess schneid and I could have told him "no, not possible" and left it at that, but we chose to help him since he already said that he had a Genie (most likely an HR34). To us it made sense to tell him what he could do, rather than just to tell him that what he wanted to do wouldn't work.

If you have a way for him to do as he wishes and use his C31 with his dish, feel free to describe it.
