we've been happy w/ our new 40" insignia roku tv. we added netflix streaming ($8) to our long-held netflix dvd plan ($12): the vastly superior quality of commercial-free, self-directed, and diverse content blows the doors off the 100's of channels from cable tv. we didn't even need to give roku a credit card since we already had a netflix account. will likely just use netflix and any interesting free roku channels that we find.
i've been working w/ ota reception for local networks. my homemade bowtie antenna would start losing signal on two stations after dusk. these are vhf, and my research pointed to mohu leaf and wineguard flatwave as good paper-size indoor antennas, with the vhf reception nod given to wineguard. home depot had it for $29 and it does a good job w/ the vhf stations so far.
we are certain we'll drop cox tv this week, return their minibox, and keep their internet.
our analog tivo will still supply a robust program guide (internet data for device's lifetime). this will supplement the epg data from the rca dta880 that becomes our digital dvr.
will keep trying to get tivo ir cable to change channels of the rca tuner, but as it stands, losing tivo is not such a big concern now w/ complete netflix and local otas for news and maybe a few rca dvr recordings.
hope all this info proves useful for rv.netters thinking to cordcut cable tv
