Ice Cream Sandwich

When used in reference to a cell phone, what does the term "ice cream sandwich" imply? We just acquired our first "Smart Phones" and are trying to learn the terminology.
  • Yup, desserts. All of the Android releases are named using that convention. The first letter is the next letter of the alphabet and then some dessert with that name.

    Cupcake
    Donut
    Eclair
    Froyo
    Gingerbread
    Honeycomb
    Ice Cream Sandwich
    Jellybean - Most current release

The next release will start with the letter K, Key Lime Pie.

After looking at my phone, I see nothing that relates to Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, or anything else related to food. All I see are a bunch of numbers ans letters so how does that relate to food?

  • Thanks, guys. I thought maybe it had something to do with size or something. When I was a kid in Arkansas we had a "crank" phone hanging on the wall. I used to call my dad at work. If I remember correctly, his number was "three longs and one short." Now, I'm texting my grandkids. Cool!
  • ICS, or ice cream sandwich is an operating system for the android platform that a lot of new smart phones use. There is a recent upgrade from ICS that my Verizon phone just uploaded, it was an improvement as my GPS functions as it should and other GPS related apps also improved.
