IE 9 upgrade?

Ok, dumb question time. I have a 2008 HP Pavillion desktop with Vista Home Premium.

It's been a bit slow and cranky for quite some time inspite of being "cleaned and tuned up" by the geeks. More and more websites I go to have been telling me that my "browser is out of date" and to get the "best experience" from their website I need to upgrade. A few of my favorites have recently had the message "we support YOU but not your browser" and I'm unable to access the site using IE9.

I can through Google Chrome, but I just don't like it as well as a browser.

Given my computer's age and Vista Home Premium package... can I upgrade to a newer IE browser? And how would I do that? And... will it mess anything else up?

thanks
cts

  • Don't think Vista is compatible with anything above 9. If Chrome works, I think you are going to have to get used to it or spend some money like Johno02 did. Firefox may be another way to go for a browser.
  • My desktop was also an older model that came with VISTA installed. Finally had it stripped to a bard hard drive, and installed Windows 7 Pro. I also installed a bit more memory at the same time. Now, its like new, much faster, and has the latest browsers. IE 11 and Chrome both. Back up and save anything you want to keep, take it to a geek and have windows 7 pro installed. If possible, upgrade memory if needed. It will be like a new machine, much faster and easier to use. You will get the newest browser with the upgrade.
