These indoor mounted amplified HDTV antenna's go by a number of names like 1byone, Vansky, Lovebay, and others. They advertise their ability to pick up over-the-air signals is much better than other systems. Does anyone have any experience with these types of TV antenna's while on the road?
TV signals are line of sight meaning if your receiving antenna cannot "see" the transmitting antenna you will not get a picture. in the old analog days a picture would become more and more 'snowy' as the distance between the two antennas increased or if there were objects such as trees, hills, buildings, etc. between the two antennas. in the brave new digital world that is no longer the case. the digital signal is either there or not. this means that a clear line of sight between the two antennas is more critical than ever.
these "miracle" indoor TV antennas (there is no such thing as an HD antenna) are really designed for apartment dwellers in larger urban areas closer to transmitting towers. so, no, these antennas are generally not suitable for an RV especially one not permanently located in or near an urban area. we live in the western Chicago suburbs and I can receive a signal from most of the Chicago
for best over-the-air (OTA) TV reception height is your best friend. you want a TV antenna as high in the air as you can get it. for my money that means a Winegard Sensar Pro IV.
