Indoor HD TV antenna

Has anyone tried or been successful with one of the indoor HD antennas inside an RV ?
I know the location can make a huge difference but what I'm wondering is are they better then the traditional roof mounted antenna on an RV ?
We have an aluminum sided TT and have a nice outside wall location in a cabinet behind the TV location so it would be hidden nicely. And there is power there if anyone can recommend a good one with a booster.
Am I wasting time and money on this ?
Thanks
  • try using your cell phone inside an elevator... same thing...

metal cage *trailer* HOW can it see a signal..

and the antenna.. there is NO difference between Analog and Digital .. it just a signal.. the receiver, it does matter.
  • Mike, A lot of time and energy has gone into this subject and the best info I have seen here is from SCVJeff. He has the time education and equipment available to test antennas. You can do a search using his handle and get more information than you need. He's pretty cool and I think his findings seem are rock solid.

NO. and Yes. In that order.

It's not a better antenna to start with and inside a metal shell makes it much worse.
  • As mentioned above, you would be wasting money compared to ANY roof mounted antenna. The best is the Batwing style antenna and it goes down from there.

short answer...yes, you're wasting money. unless you're in an urban environment just a few miles from the transmit site your results will be poor. an outdoor mounted antenna is the way to go. and fyi...there is no such thing as an HD antenna. whether you can receive HD programs is a function of your TV, not the antenna. a small but important distinction.
